Miscellaneous 2014 Initiatives

Peace River Local Council donation to Ronald McDonald House
Peace River Local Council Donation to Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta

Peace River Local Council Annual Golf Tournament and Pre-Party, June 16–17, 2015

For the second straight year, we held the event at The Dunes Golf & Winter Club in Grande Prairie. The event was kicked off with our industry-night pre-party at Maddhatters. Approximately 60–70 people attended the industry night, and 94 golfers came out for the tournament. The weather was great, and the participation from companies and our industry partners was tremendous. As an organization and with the help of all the support we received throughout the day from our sponsors and golfers, the IBAA Peace River Local Council was able to help the Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta sell $3,000 worth of raffle tickets and raise $2,360! This is a great industry and it is a privilege to enjoy a day of golf and help raise money for such a great organization. I know everyone is looking forward to this event next year!

In the third annual Quote 4 Cures campaign, Western Direct Insurance raised $30,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society to fight women’s cancers, Nov. 24, 2014.

Gates Agencies and IBAA presented Strathmore Regional Victim Services with a donation of $1000, June 27, 2014.

Southern Alberta Flood 2013

The IBAA office and brokers helped consumers manage and recover from the floods that hit Southern Alberta on June 20, 2013.

Alberta brokers donated blankets, water, and cleaning supplies to disaster centres, helped clean up local businesses and homes, and, most importantly, were there to assist people through the claims process. Brokers also helped each other, voluntarily assisting the clients of affected brokers. Other flooded brokers worked from home, determined to support those in need.

Clearly, Alberta brokers care about the little guy and the big. They banded together to assist their communities as well as each other.

THANK YOU, Alberta brokers, for helping us through the immediate challenge and being a shoulder to lean on.

Miscellaneous 2013 Initiatives

Western Financial Group kicked off its second annual Quote 4 Cures Campaign, which raises money to fight women’s cancers, Oct. 1, 2013.

Sexsmith Insurance Pink Day Pinkest Little Town in the West: Sexsmith Breast Cancer Awareness, Aug. 14, 2013
The judges came through on horseback, about 40 of them, on their tour through 23 towns in 21 days. Sexsmith painted all the curbs and road centre-lines pink and put ribbons on all trees, benches, and light posts. Town flower baskets were pink and numerous homes were decorated with something pink. Sexsmith Insurance won for best-dressed business! (Dennis thinks it may have been due to the eight-foot pink bra on their roof.) The cavalry were hosted overnight in the town campground, and about 350 locals came for dinner. Pink Day was a great community-building event that raised $19,000.00 for a terrific cause.

Western Financial Group Raises a Record $137,845 Through Annual Support the Cause Day Walk (press release, Aug. 8, 2013).

Western’s Support The Cause Day walk has raised more than $563,000 since 2005.
