Many different kinds of liability policies protect businesses and individuals from distinct types of liability risk. The Commercial General Liability (CGL) policy protects businesses of all types, from “mom-and-pop” stores to the most complex commercial enterprises, against the financial consequences of their legal liability for bodily injury, personal injury, and/or property damage arising from their business activities.

As a “General” policy, the CGL is adaptable to the many diverse risks inherent in the operation of a business and takes over where the specific liability policies stop.
  • Study in detail topics related to the CGL policy including definitions of “legal liability” and “damages.”
  • Examine how to manage Liability Risk and CGL Forms.
  • Analyze the declarations and wording in the CGL Policy, Coverages A, B, C and D, Common Exclusions, and Supplementary Payments.
  • Learn who is the insured, as well as the limits and the conditions of the GCL policy.
  • Discuss basic legal concepts as they relate to liability insurance, the ways in which liability may be incurred, and alternatives for managing the liability risk.
