Gord Ironside Spearheads $52,276.30 Fundraising Drive in Carstairs for High River Flood

Ironside presents cheque ro $52,276.30 for High River flooding
Thanks to the personal efforts of Gord Ironside (Ironside Insurance Brokers Ltd.), who pounded the pavement, determined to raise $50,000.00 for flood relief in High River, the Carstairs community raised $52,276.30. Carstairs Mayor Lance Colby, Gord Ironside, and Carstairs CAO Carl McDonnell met with High River Mayor Emile Blokland on August 27, 2013, to present the cheque. Blokland expressed his amazement that this amount could be raised in a town of about 3,700 residents. Gord opened the drive with a $5000.00 donation from his business and personal funds.

On August 30, 2013, Gord commented, "The concern is that in a month or so this big event that had us all moved with concern for our fellow Alberta residents will slowly fade away, yet High River will still have a great need for this fund for its residents." The most pressing issues, he noted, "will be mental, physical, emotional, and relational needs. Serious personal problems could arise if these emotional and mental needs are not met. As brokers in rural Alberta, we have contact and relationships with many in our community and can have an influence on and trust and respect from our community that many other businesses don’t have. I would challenge all rural Alberta brokers to take these needs to their local businesses and residents. They would be surprised at what the outcome would be and what their community could do. I have had nothing but great support and appreciation from the community for heading this up."
