Trump: Taxes, Trade, and Treasuries

Monday, May 8, 10:30–11:30 a.m.

Many cross-currents continue to buffet the global and Canadian outlook. Oil prices and the Canadian dollar have rallied, but there is still plenty of uncertainty and downside risks. The new U.S. President and the two-year negotiations between the European Union and Britain are top of the list so far. Central banks are responding in very different ways to these forces: the U.S. Federal Reserve is gradually normalizing interest rates, while the Bank of Canada is expected to stay on the sidelines for some time. Monetary policy in Japan, the U.K., and the Euro Area remains very accommodating.

Douglas Porter will address these and other issues, and discuss their impact on the North American economic outlook.
