Licensing Level 1 Immersion Course Description
30.0 CE credits for General and Adjuster licences
Prepare for the Alberta Insurance Council (AIC) Level 1 General exam, or obtain study material for the AIC Adjuster exam with this introductory Licensing course.
These intense week-long sessions are for those who like to work with peers and have the benefit of an instructor.
The course textbook (Fundamentals of Insurance, shipped with all registrations) includes Alberta-specific materials and up-to-date licensing requirements. Registration also includes practice quizzes and exams.
A passing grade or a minimum of 75% attendance entitles you to course credits. If you don't qualify through attendance, download your passing grade from the AIC website and email it to Rob Barnes (rbarnes@ibaa.ca).
Course Content
Starting with the history of insurance, this program will guide you through definitions, functions, and major classes of insurance—all in a way designed to break down learning barriers for technical topics.
General Principles
- Terms and definitions in the insurance industry
- Idiosyncrasies of insurance contracts and the law
- Principles and practices of insurance
- Underwriting considerations for types of insurance and in general
- Industry knowledge
- Professional and broker business practices, insurance regulations, and code of conduct
Personal and Commercial Property
- Common property exposures, package policies, clauses, coverage, exclusions, and forms
- Bonds
Farm, Marine, and Aviation Insurance
- Property and liability exposures, coverage, and exclusions
Personal and Commercial Liability
- Canadian legal system, tort law, definitions of liability, liability exposures, liability policies, coverage, and exclusions
Auto
- Types of insurance and application requirements
- SPF #1 (Standard Automobile Policy Form, owner's form) and other SPFs
- SEFs (Standard Endorsement Forms) and statutory conditions
Accident and Sickness
- Provincial plans, group plans, and private accident-and-sickness policies
Travel
- Single-trip and annual policies, ratings, and coverage
