Licensing Exam Essentials - Put Your Best Foot Forward

April 11, 2019   (0 Comments)

Licensing Exam ChallengeThe Alberta Insurance Council Licensing Exams are difficult, so here are 4 tips to help you pass them.

General Licensing Level 1, 2, and 3 courses contain a lot of material, and for good reason. Brokers need to provide their clients with advice that will protect their assets and reduce risk. Our goal in the classroom is to draw on the information in the textbook and real-life examples to help you understand the required concepts. We provide quizzes and practice exams to help you test your understanding, and time to address any questions you have, but we can't read you the textbook.

  1. Before attending the classroom courses, ensure you pre-read the entire textbook and try to understand the basic concepts.
  2. Be prepared for about two hours of homework each night after class. You may need to make childcare, work, or other arrangements to ensure you have this time. You'll need to read closely the chapters for the next day's class, come prepared with any questions you might have, and complete any assigned quizzes.
  3. Take your time reading both the textbook and the quizz/practice-exam questions. Reliable insurance coverage is about the details in what the clients say, what the policy wordings say, and what items require coverage.
  4. Make sure you are ready to write the exam before you sign up for an exam sitting. Feeling pressured to write the exam before you are ready may interfere with your recall and performance. You might need to sit down and talk to your manager about any issues you are having. You have only 3 chances before you have to wait 6 months to try again.
