IBAA Education Policies: Designation Exam Policies
These policies apply to the following courses:
  • CAIB (Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker)
  • CPIB (Canadian Professional Insurance Broker)
  • CCIB (Canadian Certified Insurance Broker)
Registration and payment must be received 30 days prior to the exam. We reserve the right to bar students who have not paid from an exam sitting.

Exam Registrations

  • Separate registration is required for all designation exams and must be submitted online through
  • For exam date changes, students must register online and send a written request to IBAA by email (, fax (780-424-7418), or mail so that the appropriate adjustments can be made.
  • Designation exams are held on assigned dates throughout the year.

Exam Locations and Proctors

  • All other exam locations are arranged by IBAA and will not exceed 80 km outside of the student's business location.
  • Students may request an alternate location provided they contact IBAA at least 30 days in advance of the exam date. The alternate location is subject to IBAA’s approval, and the student must pay the expense for both the exam location and the proctor.
  • Students may recommend a proctor for the alternative exam location, although all exam proctors will be approved and arranged by IBAA.

Exam Date Change and Rewrite Policies

  • A change of exam date to an earlier or a later ("Deferred Registration") exam sitting can be requested at any time before 30 days prior to the student’s originally scheduled exam at no cost.
  • A "Deferred Registration" is not accepted in the 30 days prior to the exam. A "Late/Rewrite Registration" fee will be charged for requests received after the 30 days prior to the originally scheduled exam date.
  • In extenuating circumstances, the fee can be waived by an IBAA Education Coordinator upon receipt of a written request and an online registration along with supporting documentation from either a doctor or the student’s employer.
  • Students who do not pass the exam will be charged a "Rewrite" fee upon their registration to rewrite the exam.
  • Students who fail to attend their exam will be charged a "Rewrite" fee upon their re-registration for this exam at another sitting
  • There is no limit to the number of times a student may register to rewrite the exam, but a "Rewrite" fee will be charged each time.
  • The deferral of a "Late/Rewrite Registration" exam is treated as a standard "Deferred Registration" and incurs no cost as long as the deferral request is made at least 30 days prior to the scheduled late/rewrite exam date.
  • New to Immersion in-class exams: In the event that you must cancel out of an Immersion in-class exam within two weeks of the start date of the respective class, you will incur a $50 cancellation fee to help offset costs associated with ordering and preparing your exam.
