Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta Membership Types

Membership Types—Where Do You Belong?

Individual Memberships

IBAA does not sell membership to individuals. In order to qualify as a member, you must work for a full or affiliate member, or possess your CAIB, CPIB or CCIB designaton.

 

Full Membership

Your brokerage represents more than one insurer, owns its book of business, and controls its operations. 

  • Your Full Membership automatically extends to your staff
  • You can use BIP branding materials (available under members portion of this site)
  • You have access to complimentary, professionally developed advertising and videos (also available on the members portion of IBAA's website)
  • You receive the benefit of all IBAA advocacy initiatives with government and regulators
  • You have access to discounts on IBAA educational offerings
  • You can take advantage of our member benefits program
  • You have voting privileges at our Annual General Meeting and are eligible to run for election to the IBAA Board of Directors

Affiliate Membership—Northwest Territories, Yukon Territory, and Nunavut Territory

This member type is identical to Full membership in definition except: 

  • Your are located in one of the territories listed above
  • You and your staff can participate in IBAA meetings and events  but are exempted from voting rights
  • You and your staff are ineligible to hold an elected office on the IBAA board of directors and officers

Affiliate Membership—Non Brokerage

Organizations that do not meet the definition of a brokerage, but:

Your source of income is wholly derived from the insurance industry (excluding those owned by a financial institution)

  • Your affiliate membership extends to your organization's staff
  • You and your staff receive discounts on IBAA education
  • You are eligible to take advantage of IBAA's member benefits program
  • You and your staff can participate in IBAA meetings and events but are exempted from voting rights
  • You and your staff are ineligible to hold an elected office on the IBAA board of directors and officers
  • You are not entitled to use BIP branding

 

Associate Membership

This membership is for CAIB, CPIB, or CCIB graduates only:

  • Who work for a non-member organization but still wish to use their designation in business dealings (e.g. on your business card)
  • Your membership must be renewed annually, or you forfeit the ability to use the designation
  • Associates also receive member pricing on IBAA courses and products
  • You can participate in IBAA meetings and events but without voting rights
  • You are ineligible to hold an elected office on the IBAA board of directors
  • You are unable to use BIP branding
