IBAA Charity Drive for Ronald McDonald House

Get Ready for IBAA's Ronald McDonald House Charity Campaign in the Last Week of September

We're off and running with IBAA's charity of choice, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

This year, we'll have a fundraising blast only in the last week of September, so you'll want to prepare in advance. Your donations will be distributed throughout RMHC locations Alberta.

Donate a night's stay or multiple nights ($172/night) and have RMHC display a framed poster of your donation in a bedroom for the night. IBAA will assign and post these sponsored nights on social media throughout the year. If you choose to donate another amount, you'll still benefit from IBAA's social posting of all the fundraising events that brokers will be holding September 24–28. Please email Janis Losie with what, when, and where your fundraisers are.

Why This Charity?

Imagine learning that your child is ill and you will need to travel to a different city to receive the medical care needed. In the midst of your worst nightmare as a parent, you must now also leave your home, your job, and your support system. More than 70 per cent of Canadian families with seriously ill or injured children face this reality, so the need is great and the reason we have chosen to support Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Once you've raised the funds September 24–28, you can donate through the link below. The IBAA Ronald McDonald House page identifies Southern & Central Alberta, but RMHC has promised that the funds will be distributed throughout Alberta.

Fundraising Ideas

Consider reaching out to your communities as well as raising funds within the office.

  1. Host a local BBQ or block party (if you can), a local event, or joining an existing local event where you can collect donations while also promoting your brokerage and its charity concerns.
  2. Run an office or community team-based chili cook-off with entry fee.
  3. Host a party (quiz party?), pancake breakfast, dinner, or film night and charge a fee or ask for donations from everyone who comes. For quiz questions, don’t forget music, photos, and even company knowledge.
  4. Hold a bake-sale fundraiser or a bake-off. (For a bake-off, email your colleagues asking any star bakers to enter the competition and the others to come as judges. Charge people $10/slice and ask them to score each slice out of 10. Offer a prize for the winner.)
  5. Count it out! Fill a large container with jellybeans, paper clips, marbles, coins, M&Ms, or other small items. Advertise a grand prize or give away the jar, and for a set donation have employees and clients guess how many are in the container.
  6. Host an office bingo or a 50-50 raffle with half of the proceeds donated (ideally the winner will graciously donate the other half as well).
  7. Collect your bottles and cans and turn them in for a cash donation.
  8. Hold a silent auction (also consider putting it online).
  9. Hold a 5K charity run/walk and charge an entry fee and/or encourage participants to get sponsorships (see crowdfunding below, or contact sponsors directly).
  10. Hold a car wash.
  11. Chip in to boost one of your Facebook posts and then donate based on the amount of traffic.
  12. Come up with a project that helps your community and RMHC and raise funds by donation, admission, or crowdfunding.
  13. Buy hole-in-one insurance and charge $10 per shot.
  14. Challenge other brokers or other offices to beat what you or your office has contributed.
  15. Place the RMHC box we sent you a few years ago by the door in the reception area so staff and clients can contribute.
  16. At the front desk or when delivering an invoice, ask clients to round up their purchases to the nearest whole dollar amount or to donate their change.
  17. Host pay-to-wear days like casual Friday or jeans Wednesday.
  18. Provide a prize for whichever department or group collects the most money.
  19. Ask your CEO or office manager to match the money you raise.
